bird’s eye view

Oaxaca City is a beautiful, magical place in Mexico. We visited for the first time in January 2020 after hearing so many wonderful stories about its food and art and people. Over the past 14 years, when we’ve been along the Pacific coast for a winter escape, our neighbors at Posada la Barca and other other ‘snowbirds’ from the Midwest and Canada would tell us about this favorite Mexican city. The buildings, the art, the food, the people – such vibrant color and personality.

I keep a lookout for nature and her beauty wherever I go. Oaxaca City did not disappoint. One morning as the vendors were setting up, these pigeons had a bird’s eye view of the square in front of Iglesia de Santo Domingo waking up. Below are some bonus photos of 1) a few other birds I spotted, the remainder of which were in the Jardin Etnobotanico, and 2) some of what these pigeons might have had their eyes on.

Did you miss my earlier posts about Oaxaca City? See the light shining through, hanging on a mountain, and Kambuche posole.
