I thought I would continue the trend from previous posts and share something simple that I like to photograph. In addition to boats and doors, I like to capture beautiful views framed by trees. During the pandemic I took a free landscape photography course and learned that this framing is an actual technique; apparently the frame within the frame guides the viewer’s eyes to what you want them to see, and it provides context. When I look at this sampling of photos from various vacations, I notice how I appreciate not only what’s in the view, but also the ground from which the photo is taken – so it’s like a 2-for-1 memory! At the Punat Marina, Jim and I were on a morning run, the view from Cala Macarella was along a footpath on a rocky ledge that led to another smaller beach where we spent a sunny afternoon, the view of the Duoro River is from a lovely quinta in the hills where we overnighted and sampled local port, the view across Corfu is from our hotel where we appreciated sunset views over dinner from the other side of the grounds, the view of the Amalfi coast is from the picturesque town of Ravello where enjoyed drinks and a snack on a lovely piazza, and the Vendicari view was from our hotel where we had a fun day lounging by the pool surrounded by horses.
